Retained On-Call Firefighters Wanted In North Yorkshire

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue are looking for retained on-call firefighters.

The service are hoping to recruit people for their Filey, Robin Hood's Bay, Lythe, Sherburn, Pickering, Danby, Kirbymoorside and Helmsley stations. 

Retained on-call firefighters are trained firefighters who, rather than being based at a fire station, provide on-call cover from home and/or their place of work.

They declare the periods in a week when they are available to respond to emergencies if called upon.

They also attend a training evening at their station one night a week.


Jon Wilson is a District Watch Manager in recruitment and training for Scarborough and Ryedale.

He tells us about the recruitment process:
