New trains are being tested to and from Scarborough in the next few weeks.

This comes after we told you last year that TransPennine Express is to invest £7million in constructing a train servicing depot in the town.

The new structure was meant to open in summer 2018.

Nick Sworowski, Depots and Infrastructure Projects Manager for TransPennine Express said:

“Enabling works for the new servicing depot at Scarborough are ongoing, however negotiations surrounding the project have taken longer than expected.

“As a result of this, the facility is now set to fully open in spring 2019 but we are still planning to operate some of our brand new Nova trains to and from Scarborough ahead of this with test operations planned in the next few weeks."

The modern facility will provide light maintenance services including fuelling for trains on the route between Scarborough and Liverpool Lime Street.

Once opened, it is expected that around 15 jobs will be created to help service the trains.
