A stunning £1 million win for Scarborough

A stunning £1 million win for Scarborough

Published by the Yorkshire Coast Radio News Team at 6:03am 6th September 2010.

The dark winter months may be drawing in but for Scarborough lady luck- if not the sun- is certainly shining bright. The £1 million prize, drawn on 31st August, will be shared between winners living in the YO12 5 postcode area, with the biggest prizes destined for the full winning postcode.

Players in Scarborough will have to wait till the ‘European Postcode Millions’ Party, set to be held on Sunday 12th September, to discover quite how much they’ve won- and how much that illustrious full winning postcode will receive.

The charity lottery gives 40p from every ticket to good causes- including local charities Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust.  Over £9 million has been raised for charities to date. The special ‘European Postcode Millions’ prize combines the power of charity lotteries across waters, seeing the British People’s Postcode Lottery and it’s Dutch counterpart join up to help mutual charity partner WWF.

Charitable proceeds from both sides of the channel will go to the conservation charity, with WWF’s Richard Dixon expressing his delight at the mark of this new partnership with the Postcode Lottery in the UK.

He said "It's a most remarkable start to our partnership, both nationally and internationally. The support we receive will help us to get the message about climate change across, including practical action and advice for those who want to reduce the impact of their own lifestyle on wildlife and people around the world."

It’s not the first time Yorkshire has been lucky with People’s Postcode Lottery, with Barnsley landing a quarter of a million pounds in July 2009.

People’s Postcode Lottery presenter and TFM DJ Judie McCourt will be presenting winners with huge cheques on the day, and said “This Sunday is set to be a day to remember for our winners! I can’t wait to announce the individual amounts won and reveal the full winning postcode. Make sure you come along and join the fun!”

The full European Postcode Millions prize pot of £10.3 million has been split between postcodes in the Netherlands and Great Britain.
