The Yorkshire Coast has been celebrating with the 2018 Toast of the Coast awards taking place at Scarborough Spa.

Former X Factor winner Ben Haenow entertained the audience as individuals and local businesses received recognition for their contribution to the area.

The awards, presented by Yorkshire Coast Radio, Lloyd Dowson and SIV, celebrate ‘the best’ of the Yorkshire Coast.

The winners of the 2018 were named as.....

MICHAEL COULSON

Scarborough born Michael  started his football career as a nine year old in Scarborough's youth system.  After spells at Barnsley, Grimsby, York and St Johnstone, Michael returned to Scarborough Athletic Football Club just over a year ago, and was a key player in the Seadogs gaining promotion last season scoring 33 goals.

ALISHA APPLEBY

Alisha is a young carer for her sister who is disabled with complex needs.  Whilst it’s important that Alisha pursues her own interests, she always puts those of her sister first, and proves to be an excellent role model.

Elizabeth is from Scalby School. Her pupils say she makes English understandable, and her joyful attitude encourages her them to work at the best of their ability.

Tim has been a volunteer with Dementia Action Alliance in Scarborough for 4 years, where amongst other things he has met with businesses of all sizes to encourage them to become ‘dementia friendly’.

Sarah has had to come to terms with losing a child, Declan, whilst continuing to be an amazing mum to 5 year old Connor.  Sarah is looking to set up a foundation in Declan’s name, for grieving parents.
