Whitby Town Challenge Cup Kicks Off

Published by the Yorkshire Coast Radio News Team at 8:06am 25th July 2018. (Updated at 12:50pm 25th July 2018)

Whitby Town Football Club's Challenge Cup kicks off today (Wednesday 25 July.)

The pre-season tournament gets underway as Middlesbrough face Sheffield United, with a 7.30pm kick-off, while Whitby face Hull City tomorrow (Thursday 26 July, 7.30pm KO).

The third place play-off and the final are both played on Saturday afternoon, with all four games taking place at The Turnbull Ground.

Last year’s tournament saw a young Newcastle United side beat AZ Alkmaar in the final, with Celtic finishing in third place after beating Whitby Town in the third-place play-off.

Tickets for each game will cost £10 adults, £6 concessions and £3 under-18s, though supporters can access a special early bird ticket which covers all four games, costing just £20 adults, £12 concessions and £6 under-18s. Under-18s accompanied by a paying adult will be allowed free entry.

The club has also announced that Premier League referee Michael Oliver will take charge of the third place play-off on Saturday.
