Heroes Welcome On The Yorkshire Coast

Heroes Welcome

Published by Karen Liu at 12:30pm 29th June 2018. (Updated at 8:56am 30th June 2018)

Tomorrow will be the 10th year of welcoming heroes on the Yorkshire Coast.

Heroes Welcome is part of Armed Forces Day and was first launched in Scarborough in 2008.

The scheme aims to show support to servicemen and women as well as their families.

John Senior, the National Coordinator for Heroes Welcome said:

"I would welcome all Armed Forces families serving or not, and children, to come down to the hosting tent to pick up their package of discounts for the day.

Any armed forces children also get an ice-cream voucher for a free ice-cream.

So please do come and see us at the Heroes Welcome hosting tent which is next door to the Lifeboat Station and pick up your hosting pack for the day.

We will welcome you to the resort as that is what Armed Forces day is all about.

I was walking through Filey the other day and I saw many, many shops with the Heroes Welcome sticker on equally in Whitby, so we do that really very well on the Yorkshire Coast and I'm very proud of that.

It's quite right that the scheme spreads all over the world.

In fact Robert Goodwill just sent me a photo of our scheme in Gibraltar and also a big flag going on the border."

John Senior also explains what is happening in Scarborough for Armed Forces Day tomorrow:
