The Captain Cook celebrations are continuing with the creation of some special cookies.

It's the idea of Mario La Vigna, a student from Caedmon College in Whitby. The students were set the task of coming up with something creative for the Cook 250 festival by Colin Pyrah, who's part of the working party for the festival.

Mario explains why he chose the idea of Captain Cookies:

"Whitby's well known for its food and I work in a restaurant myself so I thought I wanted to do something along those lines.

I decided to go with the cookies, because he's called Captain Cook and 'Captain Cookies' sounded good.

At first it was just a small idea, I never expected it to blow up like this."

Mario's idea was then picked up by Botham's who set about making the cookie and what ingredients to include.

The ingredients reflect Captain Cook's voyage to the South Pacific, including; coconut, stem ginger and lime.

Joe Botham is a director at Botham's, he added:

"My idea was to use stem ginger which we get from Australia, coconuts which are grown all around the south pacific and finally, to give it some extra zing, we landed on lime.

My choice of that was because when we were kids, we were always told that Captain Cook used lime juice to give the sailors to stop them getting scurvy."
