Short break carers for children with disabilities are wanted in North Yorkshire.

The Fostering Network is seeking to recruit a number of new carers this year.

Their annual 'Foster Care Fortnight' is in place until the 27th.

Alan Tucker, Fostering Manager at North Yorkshire County Council said:

"Short break carers offer probably a weekend a month or something like that for a disabled child to come and stay with them.

So these children are living with their own families most of the time.

But to give their birth family a break, then we offer some children a stay with a foster carer but as I say, just for the weekend or a couple of nights a week.

We do offer a little bit more training. We offer for all ofster carers so clearly for short break carers we tailor the training to the needs of disabled children.

But fundamentally if people have the right approach and caring attitude then I'm sure they can learn.

And also the children themselves can sometimes tell you or I'm certain their parents will guide you on how to look after their children."
