Yorkshire Coast Teens Have Say On Voting Age

Published by the Yorkshire Coast Radio News Team at 6:00am 29th March 2018.

Teenagers on the Yorkshire Coast have been having their say on whether the voting age should be lowered.

Presentations and a debate took place yesterday (Wednesday 28 March) at the Town Hall in Scarborough, with representatives from Filey Ebor Academy, Scarborough TEC, Scarborough Boys Brigade, Graham School and Westborough Scout Group in Scarborough.

They put their points across to the Scarborough Borough Council's Cabinet about why they though the voting age should be lowered from 18 to 16 before taking part in a lively debate.

The Boys Brigade were voted by the rest of the participants as having the best presentation, before everyone who took part, including the cabinet, cast their vote on whether it should be lowered at a polling station set up in the Town Hall.
