The Westwood branch of Tesco in Scarborough is opening a foodbank for a homeless charity.

From today, shoppers will be able to donate any extra items they buy to the Rainbow Centre at a collection point in the store.

The Rainbow centre and the store have been working together for a year, with the store donating leftover groceries to the charity.

Today and Wednesday will see the volunteers from the charity manning the donation point and front-of-store to engage the local community.

Senior Fresh Manager at the store, Rob Stancliffe, said:

"Customers would be best buying mostly tinned and long-life products as fresh products obviously go out of date quickly.

It's be great to support the Rainbow Centre. Any food waste that we have that's fit for consumption we give to them nightly and it would be great to get the additional stuff to them as it's great work they do in the community."
