Scarborough Athletic have announced the signing of former Leeds United central midfielder Chris Dawson.

The 23-year-old, who has also represented Wales at Under-21 level, will go straight into contention for selection for Boro at Mossley this evening.

Dawson was highly rated as he rose through the youth set-up at Elland Road, with the attacking midfielder signing a professional deal with Leeds United back in 2012.

Despite making his first team debut against Derby County in April 2013, Chris went on to make only three further senior appearances before his release in January 2016.

After initially joining up again with his Leeds United Academy coach Neil Redfearn at Rotherham United, the midfielder found himself struggling for minutes and was released by The Millers at the end of the 2015/16 season.

A midfielder who likes to break the lines, and enjoys playing with the ball at his feet, Chris made the decision to play abroad in August 2016, enjoying a short loan spell with Norwegian side Viking Stavanger.

After making nine appearances, Dawson returned to the New York Stadium in January 2017 under interim Rotherham United manager Paul Warne.

Dawson is now back to full fitness after a recent ACL injury and has joined Boro for the final 12 league games of the season.

The club extend a warm welcome to Chris and wish him well for his time with them.
