Over £10,000 Raised For St Catherine's On Yorkshire Coast

BAPTWD 2018 2

Published by the Yorkshire Coast Radio News Team at 6:28pm 13th March 2018. (Updated at 6:29pm 13th March 2018)

Over £10,000 has been raised for St Catherine's 'Bring a Pound To Work Day' on the Yorkshire Coast.

Teams from the charity along with members of Yorkshire Coast have been out and about collecting donations from Scarborough, Filey, Bridlington, Whitby and even inland towards Malton and Pickering.

The target was £10,000, which is the amount of money it costs to run the hospice for one day, but that was surpassed, finishing just shy of £13,000.

The donations were collected by all sorts of businesses across the Yorkshire Coast and even the generous donations from passing members of the public.

Fran Kitson is one of the fundraisers at St Catherine's, she said:

"It's been absolutely wonderful. It's been great to be out and about in the community, talking to people and listening to their stories about why they love St Catherine's so much, why it's so important to them and just people being so generous as well.

I did this last year, and this year I'm amazed again at how generous people are, it's wonderful.

Every pound really does count and some people were a bit apologetic that they'd given us £2, £5 or £16 but it's all accumulative pounds that add up.

Everyone should know that every pound really does make a difference."
