Scarborough College Closes After Electrical Problems

Scarborough College

Published by the Yorkshire Coast Radio News Team at 12:36pm 8th March 2018.

Scarborough College has been forced to close early today after power supply problems left the college with no heating, no ability to cook and, no working emergency lights or fire alarm.

The College say they have been suffering from a lack of electricity due to a fault with the main Northern Power supply from the Filey Road and that they have taken the decision to end the day early at 13.30.

The college is making arrangements for pupils to return home. A page on the college website outlines the plans.

We are providing food - by way of a cold buffet thanks to the efforts of the catering team - for all pupils between 11.30 and 13.30.
Between Bus King and the school minibuses most of the usual services to return pupils via our normal routes back home will depart at 13.30.  If such an early drop-off is problematic, pupils will be escorted to our boarding houses where they can remain supervised until they can be collected later this afternoon.  The boarding houses have been unaffected by the fault. A separate email with the exact details of which buses will be departing and when will follow within the next 15 minutes.

If you would prefer your son/daughter to be supervised beyond 13.30 as above, then please do phone one of the numbers on the website (all landlines are out of action)

 Headmaster, Charles Ellison, added

We are extremely sorry for this unavoidable closure.  Having celebrated the fact that we were the only school in Scarborough to remain open throughout the trials inflicted by 'The Beast from the East', it seems modern technology and health and safety have finally been our undoing!
