The coastguard and the fire service have been involved in the rescue of a woman from the mud in Whitby.

It happened at the base of the cliffs at Upgang Ravine at around 2.15pm. Crews from Whitby and Lythe and the coastguard used mud lances, salvage sheets and ladders as a platform to release the 25 year old woman who was very cold and suffering from cramp but following a check by a waiting Ambulance crew, was found to have sustained no other injuries.

It was a race against time for the emergency services with the tide also starting to come in as the woman was waist high in the mud. North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service is also advising people to stay away from the mud cliffs.
