Saint Catherine's is holding an open day this afternoon (Tuesday 6 March) for those interested in volunteering at their new Wellbeing Centre.

The new Wellbeing Centre, located in the main Scarborough site on Throxenby Lane, is a flexible and open day service that aims to be more attractive to a wider patient group.

The Wellbeing Centre will offer patients and carers who are referred to the Service in Scarborough, Filey, Whitby, Ryedale and Bridlington, access to Saint Catherine’s clinical services including doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, social workers and complementary therapy.

Alongside this, Saint Catherine’s are planning to offer patients and carers a further range of activities and sessions that can help support independence, improve relaxation, offer advice, give opportunities to talk and socialise as well as encouraging general enjoyment of life.

The hospice wants to offer patients and carers arts, crafts, music therapy, beauty therapy, make up lessons, gardening, chiropody, complementary therapy and hair appointments.

The new service will initially run every Monday and will be reviewed regularly. The open day today takes place from 4-00pm-6.00pm.

Fran Kitson is from Saint Catherine's, she said:

"Your commitment to us would be entirely up to you. If you could offer something once a week or you could come as just a one off for an hour or a whole day.

Any time anyone can give will make a difference. At the Wellbeing Centre, patients will be able to access Saint Catherine's clinical services.

So that's our doctors, nurses, physiotherapists etc, but there's also going to be a range of other activities and sessions to help support patients' independence, improve their relaxation, offer advice, give them opportunities to talk and socialise and just generally encourage life enjoyment."
