There's confusion in Scarborough today (Monday 5 March) as the HSBC store is closed.

A sign put up on the door of the branch on St Nicholas Street reads:

"Due to unforeseen circumstances we are unable to open the branch today.

Our nearest branches are in Whitby and Bridlington.

HSBC customers who have a debit card will be able to pay in cash and cheques and withdraw cash at the Post Office subject to Post Office limits.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused."

There are reports that the branch has been closed since Friday, people have turned up for appointments only to find it closed and even the ATM's not working.

HSBC have said they have had some technical issues within the branch which is currently being looked at.

They are hoping to have the branch re-opened to customers after 2pm today (5th March).
