(Updated 11:52am 5th March 2018)

Work is set to begin to remove the cones on Seamer Road.

Improvement and resurfacing work will take place tonight between 8pm and 2am.

It will replace the long-standing cones which prevent right turns into the B&M store with a traffic island and will take three weeks.

Between 8pm and 2am from 5th March there will be a road closure for traffic travelling south on Seamer Road from the junction with Queen Margaret’s Road to the traffic signals at Pheonix Drive.

Traffic travelling south will be diverted along Queen Margaret’s Road to Filey Road, where it will be able to continue its journey to the south of Scarborough.

Traffic joining Seamer Road from Queen Margaret’s Road will not be allowed to turn left and travel south from this junction for the duration of the road closure.

The closure is to allow essential utility work linked to the improvement scheme on Seamer Road.

Drivers are advised to watch for local diversion signs in the area.

North Yorkshire County Council apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Access to the retail outlets will not be affected during the work.

County Councillor Don Mackenzie, executive Member for Highways, said:

"I am delighted agreement has been reached and this work is getting under way to make the area safer. We apologise in advance for any disruption to residents and motorists that this important work may cause and thank them for their patience."

County Councillor Liz Colling, who represents the Falsgrave and Stepney division, said:

"I would like to thank everyone for their patience while we resolved this issue. I am very pleased that the work will now start".

Bus services will also be affected.

Service 17 buses from Scarborough towards Eastfield will run their normal route to Seamer Road, then will divert via Queen Margaret's Road, Filey Road, A165 bypass, Eastway and Musham Bank to Crossgates, where they will pick up their normal route to go through Eastfield to Filey Road as normal.

Stops on Seamer Road, between Queen Margaret's Road and Crossgates, cannot be served.

Buses will divert from 8pm each night, but early morning and daytime buses will run as normal.
