St Catherine's and Guide Dogs are set to benefit from a year long partnership with Scarborough's Brunswick Shopping Centre.

The partnerships will see the Centre, which attracts over 120,000 people a week will support both charities by providing a venue for events and helping to raise much needed funds for the causes.

Saint Catherine’s Hospice has served the local community for 30 years, already helping around 30,000 patients and their families across 1,600 square miles of Scarborough, Whitby, Filey, Ryedale and East Yorkshire. The Hospice's free service aims to enhance each person’s quality of life and provide dignity in death. It costs £6.2m to run the hospice each year, 66% of this comes from voluntary donations.

Guide Dogs works to give people with sight loss the confidence and skills they need to live the life they choose; and their iconic guide dog service is at the heart of the charity. Their services help people do the simple things that sighted people often take for granted, like getting to work, popping out to the shop or meeting up with friends for coffee and a chat.

Centre manager Victoria Mitchell said:

“Brunswick is extremely proud of the active role that it takes in Scarborough - a community in which we see ourselves playing an integral part.

Working with charities is an important part of our commitment to the town and something that all our customers and on site team enjoy getting involved in so we are very excited to be working alongside both organisations over the coming year to help them to achieve their goals.

The work these charities undertake, their dedication and the pioneering way in which they deliver a range of vital services to the area is something we should all take inspiration from.”

At the launch of the partnerships o Friday the shopping centre team presented each of charities with cheques for £250.
