The first of three meetings about the future of fishing and Scarborough harbour has looked at the fishing industry itself.

Industry experts have informed a task group set up by the council about how fishing might look in years to come.

They answered questions from task group members and the public this afternoon and talked about changing regulations and the possible impact of leaving the EU.

The changes include a drop in catches of white fish as they head further north for colder waters, along with an increase in shellfish and crustaceans.

Other meetings are being held with fishermen themselves on Friday and local traders next Monday.

The Scarborough Harbour Task Group has been set up to look at how the infrastructure of the harbour area can be updated and improved, according to changing needs.
