'Scarborough has an important role to play in cyber security.'

That's according to Robert Harrigan, the former head of the government's intelligence security organisation-GCHQ.

A GCHQ satellite ground station is based on the outskirts of Scarborough at Irton Moor.

Speaking to Yorkshire Coast Radio this morning, Robert said:

"If you want a guaranteed job int he next 20 years, get into cyber security. There's great things going on, including in Yorkshire, to educate young people and bring them into the cyber world.

Particularly for women and girls at school, I'm thinking of Scarborough, some fantastic things going there with GCHQ, to try and generate interest and get people excited about cyber.

Scarborough's doing a fantastic job both in GCHQ and outside and it's trying to address the skills gap.

We need people out there improving the security right across the economy such as in small businesses."
