Plans Unveiled For New Bridlington Development

Gypsey Race Park

Published by the Yorkshire Coast Radio News Team at 9:17am 7th February 2018.

Residents in Bridlington found more about the new development at Gypsey Race yesterday (Tuesday 6 February.)

It's as plans were on display to the public at the Bridlington Spa with officers from the town's Renaissance Team and landscape designers from Sweco on hand to talk.

As we told you last week, it's part of the Bridlington Integrated Transport Plan and is planned for the area adjacent to Tesco and the Palace Car Park.

It would see the stream, its banks and the surrounding area cleared of debris before being landscaped and planted.

New paths and seating will be created and areas will be managed for local wildlife. Features will be introduced into the park for children to discover and encourage active lifestyles.

Helen Jackson is Project Renaissance Co-ordinator for Bridlington Renaissance, she said:

"Introducing the green space and having the trees in their natural areas went down really well.

People were very encouraged by recreational areas where they could sit and enjoy it and having close to residential areas was also a very positive aspect but linking into the town centre went down very well.

People were very concerned about the long term maintenance and it's something we're taking very seriously.

We're working with the grounds people and the maintenance people within the East Riding of Yorkshire Council to try and address the issue.

There were also concerns about possible anti-social behaviour but actually I think that would come down with the park.

The park would be fully lit 24 hours a day."
