Scarborough MP Reacts to Poorer Education in North

The MP for Scarborough and Whitby has been reacting to a report saying there's a big North-South divide in secondary school education.

Figures from the Northern Powerhouse Partnership reveals a deep North-South divide in terms of GCSE results, hitting poorer pupils hardest.

There are fears the problem is leading to a serious skills shortage for employers.

Robert says the recently-introduced Opportunity Area Scheme is trying to address the inequality

He said:

"We've already seen Maths teachers being upskilled, we're also looking at Early Years education and how it can be improved. The third main element of the programme is to engage with employers, to improve people's ambitions and give a better understanding of what jobs might be available and how to get into them".

As part of our Ask Your MP feature, Robert's been speaking to Yorkshire Coast Radio's Jon Burke..
