A woman has been rescued by helicopter after suffering a serious leg injury near Ravenscar.

Ravenscar, Burniston and Scarborough Coastguard Rescue teams along with Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team were all called at 1130 am on Saturday to a woman who had slipped and suffered a serious leg injury near the bottom of the cliffs at the side of the Raven Hall Hotel at Ravenscar.

Due to her location, and that the path up from the base of the cliff was steep and very slippery, it was decided that the best method to extract the lady was by a Coastguard rescue helicopter based at Humberside airport.

She was airlifted to the car park of the Raven Hall Hotel where she was transferred to a land ambulance for transportation to hospital.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance also attended but was not required on this occasion.

The woman was winched to safety.
