Scarborough & Whitby MP Has His Say On Brexit

Scarborough & Whitby MP Has His Say On Brexit

Published by the Yorkshire Coast Radio News Team at 3:23pm 10th November 2017.

The MP for Scarborough and Whitby has been having his say on Brexit negotiations.

It was announced today that the deadline for the UK leaving the EU would 11.00pm on 29 March 2019.

That's when Article 50 officially runs out, but today Lord Kerr, who wrote the legislation, confirmed that it could in fact be reversed.

Lord Kerr also stated that the British people are being mislead by the government. With more Brexit negotiations taking place today, the EU's Chief Negotiator Michel Barnier, gave Britain two weeks to clarify how it will settle its divorce bill.

Mp for Scarborough and Whitby Robert Goodwill said:

"There's no going back now. The British people made a decision and we need to deliver that.

There are some in Parliament, one or two in the Conservative Party, quite a lot in the Labour Party, who are trying to find a way of getting out of this decision.

62% of people in the Scarborough and Whitby constituency voted to leave the European Union and we must deliver on that.

I'm afraid the media do tend to focus on the negatives rather than the positives. For example we've already got an agreement on mutual recognition of medical treatment.

So if you on holiday for example, to Spain, and you're ill you're going to be dealt with by the health service so we've already got an agreement in principle for that.

There are areas where we're making progress. Now we know what the deadline is, I'm sure that the negotiations will focus very much on the important decisions we have to take."
