A planning application has been submitted for two supermarkets in Whitby.

The proposals are for an M&S Foodhall and an Aldi store to be built on Whitby Business Park, just off Fairfield Way.

The M&S Foodhall would be 16,000 sq ft, with the Aldi being slightly bigger at 16,920 sq ft..

Christian Evans, from developers the Lateral Property Group, said:

"What Whitby is sort of lacking at the moment is a choice of shops for local residents and visitors to the town. This development would bring over a hundred full time jobs, and the part time equivalent of sixty five new jobs, paying all at least the living wage. It would reduce the number of vehicles going into the town and hopefully hold them on the outskirts."
