The Archbishop of York is heading to the Yorkshire Coast.

Dr John Sentamu is visiting every deanery in the diocese of York and is a chance for people to meet and listen to him.

There are a number of events going on during his time on the Yorkshire Coast. Today (13 October) the Archbishop will be visiting local schools in the area.

On Saturday (14 October) The Bishop of Hull will be visiting Filey while the Archbishop will be in Scarborough for a civic breakfast at St Catherine's before speaking at the Scarborough Market.

Dr Sentamu will also be hosting a street mission outside M&S where he will be speaking about life and faith.

On Sunday (15 October) he will be speaking at St Thomas' in Gristhorpe before a day of activities at Scarborough Fair until 4.00pm.

Reverend Nigel Chapman is the vicar of Filey, he said:

"In my former job I was a youth and children's work advisor in the diocese so my path crossed with the Archbishop quite frequently.

He's always a congenial person, very outgoing and he can be quite entertaining at time.

He keeps you on your toes shall we say! For the future, it may be that we have to look at what we do on Sundays but also for the rest of the week.

Could, for instance, a Friday evening service work better? The church does, sometimes, be seem to be stuck in its ways and we need a bit of a shake up to think outside the box.

Hopefully this mission by the Archbishop will help us to do that as well."
