Plans to build 241 in the village of Seamer have been approved by a Scarborough Borough Council Planning Committee.

Last week we told you how the parish councils of Seamer and Irton were opposed to the plans, which would effectively see the two villages joined together.

Seamer Parish Council highlighted a number of issues such as:

  • heavier traffic flow on the roads
  • an increased flood risk due to the density of the proposed properties
  • not enough spaces in local schools
  • no extra drainage system
  • parking facilities

Councillor Phil Trumper is on the borough council's planning committee, he said:

"It was a tough decision really because you have to take into account the views of residents that live in that area.

In these circumstances it's always a tough decision to make. I did listen to quite a few of the committee members in regards to the needs for housing in the borough because it is a real concern.

The planning process is a democratic one and it's always important that we listen to the views of residents and local people.

And yes, the planning committee did listen and read the views of the many people that got in touch."
