Scarborough's Manor Road Plant Nursery to Close

6:32am 20th July 2017

Scarborough's Manor Road Parks Nursery is to close.

The council's cabinet has approved the end of the service, alongside plans to buy in plants from outside instead of growing them.

A new holding facility for plants will be built at the Dean Road Depot, using money from the sale of the Manor Park Nursery.

The move is expected to save nearly £120,000 a year, but they hope to keep the council staff in other roles

Cabinet member Joe Plant said:

"Things are going to change, but I believe for the better. The only difference is we're going to buy plants from somewhere else. It's up to staff to make sure the quality of plants is high, wherever they come from.

The staff at Manor Road Nursery have good skills. We're not going to lose those skills, they're going to be in place in the Parks Department elsewhere."
