Yorkshire’s newest AquaPark - a ‘Total Wipeout’ inflatable obstacle course - opens to the public tomorrow, Tuesday 18 July at North Yorkshire Water Park, at Wykeham Lakes near Scarborough.

Adults and children from various Scarborough based organisations were on hand today to make a splash and test out the new AquaPark including pupils from Scarborough College, members of Scarborough YMCA and Compass Gym. The AquaPark includes a floating slide over 5 metres tall, climbing walls, trampolines, balance bars, rockers and rollers for people to jump, swim and climb on and a Blast Bag, which uses the powerful force of air to blast friends, family and guests skyward!

The AquaPark, will be open tomorrow from 10am-6pm, during the afternoon until 6pm from Wednesday to Friday this week, then will be open daily from Saturday 22nd July during the school holiday period. The AquaPark will available to book up until the end of October.

There have been a series of warm-up events over the last few weeks which have resulted in a positive response from participants.

Andrew Backhouse, Manager of North Yorkshire Water Park said:

“The whole team is really excited to be opening tomorrow. We’ve had hugely positive feedback from all those who’ve experienced the AquaPark so far with everyone from children, families, and groups of friends telling us how much they’ve enjoyed it.  We can’t wait for more people to experience the AquaPark and the thrills of a ‘total wipeout’!”

This summer, the North Yorkshire Water Park will also offer stand up paddle boarding, sailing, team building events, wind-surfing, open water swimming and kayaking in the beautiful setting of Wykeham Lakes on the Dawnay Estate.  The Park also has specialist fishing lakes set amongst mature woodland.

Lord Downe, Dawnay Estates said:

“North Yorkshire Water Park marks a considerable investment for the Estate and I am delighted that the first phase of the development at Wykeham Lakes, the AquaPark, is now officially open. It is great to see people down at the Lake having fun! We are looking forward to expanding the range of activities and the facilities at the lake over the next few years.”

Future plans for the North Yorkshire Water Park include additional water sports activities including a Wake Park, Pedalos and Mini-Ports. There will also be a cycle track through the woodland and around the lake side.

Janet Deacon, Scarborough Borough Council Tourism Manager said:

“We welcome these exciting plans for another significant investment in our leisure and tourism sector, which will complement existing attractions in the area. The investment by Dawnay Estates demonstrates continuing private sector confidence in the borough’s future as a leading visitor destination.”
