First Ever Kite Festival At Scarborough Castle

First Ever Kite Festival At Scarborough Castle

Published by the Yorkshire Coast Radio News Team at 8:01am 27th May 2017. (Updated at 11:44am 28th May 2017)

Scarborough Castle is hosting it's first ever kite festival this weekend.

The event, organised by English Heritage, will include a host of demonstrations, gigantic kites soaring over the headland and stunt displays.

There are workshops on offer to children with the chance of making their own kites with the help of a team of artists before getting the chance to try them out.

Castle Manager Simon Roe said:

“We can’t wait to welcome visitors to our first ever kite festival. This exciting event, in what we think is one of Yorkshire’s windiest spots, is a brilliant day out for all the family.

There's one thing that Scarborough is never short of and that's the wind! But that's one of the reasons why it's going to be really good up here.

It'll look great on the headland and when you're down on the beach you're going to be able to see all these fabulous kites flying, I don't think they could've chosen a better spot to be honest.

It's a double whammy, not only are you going to immerse yourself in the fabulous scenery, 3000 years of history and everything you get here ordinarily but you getting a professional display of kites as well.

We're very excited."

It runs from today until Monday. English Heritage members get in for free. Non member ticket prices are:

Adults £6.90

Children £4.50

Concessions £6.30

Family £18.50
