Have Your Say On Adult Learning In Bridlington

Adult Learning - Flower Arranging

11:28am 19th May 2017

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is running a six-week consultation in Bridlington to hear from people who use, have used or have an interest in its adult learning provision, as it looks to shape the future of the service in the town.

Following the conclusion of a consultation into the future of its library service, the council decided to adopt the proposal of retaining both of Bridlington’s libraries. As a result, the council had to revise its plan to move adult learning from the town’s central library, in King Street, to the more modern facility at Bridlington North Library.

In Bridlington, at present, the council delivers courses such as:

  • computer and digital skills
  • flower arranging
  • dress making
  • arts and crafts
  • mental health awareness
  • supporting teaching and learning in schools
  • photography.

The council is inviting comments and feedback about service users’ experiences and what they would like to see from the service to meet their requirements.

Potential points for discussion could include:

  • Whether or not people in the town want/need a dedicated adult learning centre.
  • What they would like the council to deliver as an adult learning provider – are there any gaps?

Sara Arnold, employment, education and skills group manager at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said:

“Adult learning is important for many of our residents as it helps them develop and obtain new skills, further their education, boost job and career prospects or discover a new hobby or leisure activity.

To ensure we are offering the best possible service to the people of Bridlington, we have decided to consult them on what they think about the current adult learning provision provided by the council and what they would like to see going forward.

I would encourage as many people as possible to take part in the consultation, to give us as wide a range of views as possible and to help us develop a plan for future delivery of this popular and important service.”

The survey will be available online at www.eastriding.gov.uk/corp-survey/snapform/P01719/adultlearningbrid.htm

Hard copies of the survey will also be available by calling into the Adult Learning Centre in Bridlington Central Library or by calling the team on (01262) 677 500.

The closing date for the return of the surveys will be Sunday, 18 June.

Results from the survey will be used to consider whether changes will be made to the service.
