Yorkshire Coast County Council Election Results

The Conservatives have retained control of North Yorkshire county council winning 55 of the 72 seats, an increase of 10 seats.

In the Scarborough Borough Janet Jefferson has retained her seat for the Castle division as an independent and was the first to be announced at the count at Scarborough Spa.

She gave her reaction to Yorkshire Coast Radio's Jon Burke..


Labour have only won four seats in the entire county with three of them in the Scarborough Borough. Eric Broadbent has retained the Northstead seat, Liz Colling has held Falsgrave and Stepney, Tony Randerson has held on to Eastfield & Osgodby.

UKIP lost their only seat in the Scarborough District as Helen Swiers took the Filey seat for the Conservatives from Sam Cross.

The other gain for the Tories in the borough has come from the Woodlands Division, where Scarborough borough council member Andrew Jenkinson beat standing Labour councillor, David Billing.

The turnout was higher than for the previous election in 2013. Across the Scarborough Borough the turnout was 32.12% up from just over 30% four years ago.
