Sleights Football Club is hosting an open evening tonight as they look to return to the village.

Matt Hewison, who is the Sports Development Officer at Scarborough Borough Council is the guest speaker at the event at The Plough Pub on Coach Road which gets underway at 7.30pm.

He's been working alongside the Sleights chairman Andrew Snaith for a couple of years. The club are looking for a couple of acres of land within Sleights or nearby such as Briggswath.

The club would welcome anyone who wants to help on a financial side of things in assisting with the club returning home or even helping out with out with suggestions of suitable land.

Recently, the club has been playing its games at Caedmon College, but they want to return to Sleights and become a community hub within the village.

Chairman Andrew Snaith said:

"Matt's been a big help to us already. He'll be on hand to answer any questions from the local authority perspective on what this entails and several of the lads from the club will be on hand for a chat too.

Our new management team of Ed Turner and Sam Leadley have done a fine job in Division One of the Scarborough League and we believe the people of Sleights would like football back in the village."

Paul Connolly is the secretary of Sleights FC, he added:

"It's important for us to have our ground so that we aren't paying out money every week to hire a pitch out or hire somewhere to train.

We want to have a base that we can run everything from so it is massively important for the future of the club.

We're looking for people who could sponsor us but also maybe have land or know of people who have land that can help us progress with our aim of moving back into the village."
