New Indoor Volleyball Club Comes to Bridlington
6:31am 20th March 2017
East Riding of Yorkshire Council's Sport, Play and Arts Service, and East Riding Leisure Bridlington, are delighted to announce that a new Indoor Volleyball Club for adults will start tonight, between 6.30pm and 7.30pm.
To celebrate the launch of the club, Ben Pipes (the London 2012 GB Volleyball Captain) will be supporting and coaching at tonight's session, which will enable participants to learn the game, play the game and have fun.
The weekly session will be free of charge for an initial eight weeks (activities will not take place on Bank Holidays) and is aimed at ages 18+. All abilities are welcome.
Councillor Richard Burton, portfolio holder for civic wellbeing and culture, said:
"I am delighted that local sports star Ben Pipes is able to help us launch this new club.
I very much hope that, over time, the volleyball club will be able to be sustained by participants and local players and develop strong links with other volleyball clubs across the region.
If you would like to try something new, volleyball has plenty of benefits when improving both physical and mental health. It can also help improve muscular endurance, strength and overall flexibility of your body. So why not get involved and give it a go!"
The establishment of the volleyball club is part of the council's Active Coast Programme, which will officially launch in Easter 2017 and aims to 'provide residents and visitors opportunities to get active, be healthy and enjoy life on the East Yorkshire coast'.
The club also further enhances the provision for volleyball in the Bridlington area and will provide a strong link to the Go Spike beach courts (situated near Princess Mary Promenade and South Cliff Beach, near Bridlington Park & Ride) and develop participants' ability and confidence to play both indoors and outdoors.
