Helicopter To Become Unique Scarborough Cafe

Scarborough-based business man Ben Stonehouse is seeking crowdfunding to help restore a Sea King helicopter with the aim of creating a unique café experience.

The self-confessed helicopter enthusiast, purchased the XZ598 – HAR.3 Westland Sea King helicopter, which was a former Search and Rescue helicopter based at RAF Leconfield, in an auction earlier this month.

Ben has begun sourcing the missing parts to renovate the helicopter with a view to restoring it back to its former glory.  So far, he has successfully sourced five main rotor blades.

Commenting on his recent purchase, Ben said:

“This is a very exciting opportunity for people to get involved in a truly unique project.  While this has always been a dream of mine – to own my very own helicopter – I know there will be lots of people out there who would like to be part of that dream too.

She’s in a pretty sorry state at the moment, but if I can raise some additional funding I can purchase the missing parts and continue to restore her back to her former glory.  She won’t ever fly again, but by creating a café in a unique setting means people will be able to enjoy the helicopter experience without needing to take to the skies.”

Ben is offering a package of incentives to those who can invest in the Sea King Café Project.

The package includes: free coffee at the café for a year, customised T-shirts, a private launch party event, your name on a rotor blade and an opportunity to name the helicopter.
