Yorkshire Coast's Links To Antarctica Celebrated

Published by the Yorkshire Coast Radio News Team at 8:02am 14th January 2017.

A new exhibition at a visitor attraction on the Yorkshire Coast is celebrating our links with the Antarctic.

Scarborough Maritime Heritage Centre are marking a hundred years since Ernest Shackleton returned from exploring the region.

Mark Vesey is chairman of the centre, he said:

"They got stranded in the ice for 10 months in their ship, they had to abandon the ship and then they rowed and sailed to a small island called Elephant Island where they stayed for quite a few months. It was a really amazing adventure, none of them died, they all survived."

The exhibition is free entry and is open Wednesday to Sunday from now until Easter.
