IOD Event Could Bring the PM to Scarborough

Published by the Yorkshire Coast Radio News Team at 6:03am 23rd September 2016.

One of the UK’s best connected and most influential business leaders will be the guest speaker at the Institute of Directors’ first ever Yorkshire Coast Leaders’ Lunch on Friday and an event next spring could see the PM visiting the borough.

Lady Barbara Judge, the IoD’s first female chairman and a distinguished commercial lawyer, will join guests at the Scarborough Spa Complex for the leaders lunch.

Lady Judge has a wealth of experience from senior executive and non-executive roles in the private and public sectors. She is currently chair of the Pension Protection Fund and the Energy Institute of University College London, as well as a non-executive director of Portmeirion Group.

Also attending the prestigious lunch as special guests will be Barry Dodd CBE, Lord-Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, and Sir Gary Verity of Welcome to Yorkshire.

The lunch is a pre-cursor to the IoD’s regional conference, which will be held at the Scarborough Spa in Spring 2017. That event could see big names from the worlds of business and politics visiting the area.

Natalie Sykes, regional director for the IoD in Yorkshire and the North East said:

"The summit will have one of our business leaders at the event and then we will look for a senior cabinet minister, ideally we would like the Prime Minister if not the chancellor, potentially both. That's something that we are working on to ensure we have a senior business leader coming to the coast."
