Scarborough and Whitby's MP Backs EU

Robert Goodwill

Published by the Yorkshire Coast Radio News Team at 8:02am 2nd April 2016.

The MP for Scarborough and Whitby's been talking to us about his views on the EU Referendum.

Conservative Robert Goodwill says he'll be voting to stay in the European Union.

David Cameron has renegotiated a new deal for the UK - with the 'In-Out' referendum being held in June.

Robert said:

"Personally I've come down on the side of remain but I know many of my supporters and members are on the leave side. I think it's up to people to make up their own mind. There's been a lot of rather wide of  the mark speculation about the two alternatives but I think in this case it's not about my constituents telling me how to vote, it's me asking them to look at the different arguments on both sides and come to a decision. I'm going to vote to stay but who knows what people will decide?

"I'm very pleased that the Prime Minister has got a better deal. We do have or own borders, we do have our own currency, we do have a number of other concessions the Prime Minister's got to reassure people for example about benefits being paid to people who aren't UK nationals. I'm convinced that this is a good deal and that Britain will be better in the European Union than out."
