Yorkshire Coast Projects Benefit From Carrier Bag Profits

Yorkshire Coast Projects Benefit From Carrier Bag Profits

Published by the Yorkshire Coast Radio News Team at 10:31am 27th February 2016.

There's the chance to help a Yorkshire Coast community project while you do your food shop.

Tesco has chosen to donate all the money people spend on carrier bags to local groups, and shoppers get to choose which one.

From today until the 6th March customers will be able to vote for their favourite of three projects - which will be given grants of £8,000, 10,000 or £12,000.

The projects are:

Raincliffe Restoration Project - An all-terrain vehicle o give group members the chance to reach areas of the woodland for remedial work.

Community Play Park - A natural play area and adventure trail in Whitby.

Skate Park Resurfacing - To bring back to life a skatepark in Thornton Le Dale.

Harry Townend is Produce Manager at Tesco in Scarborough, he said:

"It really is a fantastic scheme and we want more community (groups) and charities to apply for this. The next window opens in May. Over the year there's £60,000 that will go to charities in this area."

To apply for the next round of funding from the project go to:
