Fracking Discussions in North Yorkshire

Fracking Discussions in North Yorkshire

Published by the Yorkshire Coast Radio News Team at 6:30am 22nd January 2016.

There's a meeting about fracking in North Yorkshire today.

Representatives from the industry have been invited to County Hall to give more information about the method of gas extraction.

They're talking to the County Council's Transport, Economy and Environment Committee and the Health Scrutiny Committee - answering questions from Councillors and some which members of the public have already submitted.

The speakers include UK Onshore Oil and gas, Friends of The Earth and Yorkshire Water.

Councillor Andrew Backhouse is Chairman of the Transport, Economy and Environment Committee, he said:

"They're coming because they understand and they accept the complexities and the importance of getting this one right, if we are going to proceed, or not as the case may be.

I can't stress enough that this is not a determining body, we are making no decisions. We are trying to tease out information to inform the guidance within our minerals and waste plan which at some point in time may help to define any application decisions that are take going forward."
