Future of Scarborough Campus Discussed

Published by the Yorkshire Coast Radio News Team at 6:45am 12th June 2014. (Updated at 6:57am 12th June 2014)

The people of Scarborough will have a chance to have their say on the future of the University of Hull’s Scarborough campus at a special Town Team Meeting tonight.

The University of Hull will be sharing its vision for the future of the Scarborough Campus and consulting with people on their views of possible future operating models at the next Scarborough Town Team meeting, where the University’s future is the only item on the agenda.

The meeting will begin with an outline from the University of the vision for the campus and the options and types of partners being considered for taking the vision forwards. There will then be chance for people at the meeting to consider the opportunities and questions prompted by the future scenarios. Views will be collected and fed into the wider consultation process that in turn will inform the University’s future decision making.

This will not be the only opportunity for the community of Scarborough to learn about the University’s vision or to contribute questions, views and ideas to the process. At the meeting, other ways of engaging will also be outlined and these will then be promoted locally.

Dr Craig Gaskell, Principal of the Scarborough Campus, is looking forward to sharing the University's vision with the Town.

He said: “We’re at an exciting stage in the process now and can start exploring the shape that future Higher Education can take here. I’m looking forward to hearing contributions from around Scarborough.”

The open Town Team meeting is taking place at the Royal Hotel, St Nicholas St, Scarborough at 7pm.
