North Yorkshire County Council has decided Whitby Community College and Caedmon School are to merge.

Councillors on the council's executive have made the decision at a meeting this morning.

It means Caedmon School will close and students between 11 and 19 years of age can go to Whitby Community College.

The change will be in place by the 1st September.

Concerns have been expressed about the future of Eskdale school in the wake of a merger.

The council says it has no plans to consult on closing it and it hopes the three schools can work together.
