Populism in politics is much talked about nowadays, but it is not always clear what this means or how new the phenomenon is. This talk will try to define populism and will explore evidence of populism in Scarborough during the Second World War. The talk will be based on local newspaper sources, the Mass Observation Archive in Sussex and material held in the National Archives in Kew, including MI5 files.
