On Thursday 11th April we have the penultimate Lunchtime Concert at Scarborough Library. We present The Kathleen Ferrier Story written by Vincent Billington. Contralto Valerie Parker will be singing many of Kathleen's best loved songs and arias accompanied by pianist Tim Tozer, Maria Billington will narrate the story. Kathleen Ferrier was born in 1912 in Lancashire. She was a contralto who achieved an international reputation as a stage, concert and recording artist with a repertoire extending from folk songs to the great classics. Her death in 1953 from cancer at the height of her fame was a shock to the general public who knew nothing of her illness. Vincent researched her life from her letters, diaries, colleagues and my own family connections.
The concert is part of The Books by the Beach Festival.
The last few lunchtime concerts have been cancelled due to our pianist Frank James breaking his fingers in an accident. There will be one more concert (The Emerald Isle) on the 18th April
The concerts both start at 12.30pm and admission is by donation on the door
