Residents in the Sleights area are being encouraged to get involved with their community at the Celebrating Sleights Volunteering Fair on 24 November.

The event, organised by Community First Yorkshire and North Yorkshire County Council, is open to all and promises to be a celebration of local life, activities and skills. There will be lots of information on how people can get involved and volunteer in their local community. Why not come along and try something new or even start a new hobby?

Confirmed exhibitors on the day, who can talk about local volunteering, include: Whitby District Community Transport • North Yorkshire Youth - painting a Sleights rock • Carers Resources – My Neighbourhood • Guides and Brownies • Esk Valley Railway Development Partnership • Whitby Area Sheds • Yorkshire Countrywomen Association • Beyond Housing • Revival North Yorkshire CIC

Entry to the event is FREE, and there will be refreshments, produce and crafts for sale, plus games for younger children.

As part of #Iwill Week (12-16 November), Community First Yorkshire is encouraging young people to get involved in meaningful social action and to have an impact on the communities and causes they care so much about. Celebrating Sleights Volunteer Fair is a perfect springboard for young people in the area to find out how they can get involved with local volunteering.

Killer Queen have been performing their tribute to Queen’s concert since 1993.

Their expert musicianship, extraordinary energy and accurate portrayal of the world’s greatest live band have rightfully earned Killer Queen the title of Queen tribute royalty.

Thrilling sell-out audiences across the globe from the UK to Moscow and annual tour of USA, Killer Queen recreates the high energy, powerful phenomenon that was Queen live.

Fronted by Patrick Myers as Fredde Mercury, ‘Time Out’ described Patrick’s resemblance to Freddie Mercury as "Spooky,” his uncanny likeness was further proven when he recorded a number one hit single singing as Freddie Mercury on Fat Boy Slim's record 'The Real Life!'.

This quality, combined with a powerful 3 1/2 octave tenor range, expert musicianship and dynamic stage presence, has captivated audiences the world over.

Anthea is a woman on the edge, out of work, and in arrears. When she gets mixed up in a riot at the local supermarket, she seizes the opportunity to stock her empty cupboards and those of her friend, Maggie.

But how will they hide the loot from their lawabiding husbands? What will they tell the police?

When the going gets tough Anthea’s anarchic imagination takes over, with a fantastical, farcical answer for everything…

Conrad Nelson directs Dario Fo’s classic comedy, a fast and furious political satire on the plight of the working poor, transposed to Brexit Britain.

Amelia explained: “We know that loneliness is a concern for many. It is very sad to hear that some people can go days and not talk to anyone.

“As we are so close to the town centre, the Post Office and bus stops, we’re hoping to provide a warm welcome and some company for anyone that would like to pop in.

“There will be someone here to offer a listening ear and our friendly team will have delicious hot drinks, cakes and gelato for sale.

“Anyone can pop along and find our bright and easy access café a place to find a bit of company and some sweet treats!”
