Santa Paws Appeal

Sunday 1st December, 2019

Every year Pets at Home run their annual charity Christmas event The Santa Paws Appeal to raise money for Support Adoption for Pets who help animal charities by funding grants, building new rescue centres, funding vet bills and even pet medical equipment for fire stations! Each store also supports their own local charities who get 50% of all the money raised. Scarborough store supports Yorkshire Coast Dog Rescue who help, foster and rehome dogs across the Yorkshire Coast. From November 22nd until Christmas Eve events take place inside the store: tombola, bake sales, games (including our toughest one yet - guess the combination to free Santa from the crate!) Just 50p will provide a rescue pet with a Christmas dinner. Scarborough is aiming to raise £4000 this year! Donations can be made in store at the stalls or added on to your shopping (so card payment is fine!) and they can also be made online. Yorkshire a Coast Dog Rescue are also looking for volunteers to help run the tombolas and bake sales and of course...pets are welcome to join too! even if it’s just an hour or two!

Shifting Sands a brand new micro festival of documentary, debate, and archive film that will take place around Scarborough.

Produced by emerging community cinema collective sea/film, the
festival will take place at The Stephen Joseph Theatre, in community & creative hubs around Scarborough, and at the town's iconic Market Hall: www.seafilmscarborough.com

It begins with two special screenings of internationally renowned documentaries coming to the Yorkshire Coast for the first time. Honeyland tells the remarkable story of Europe's last female bee-hunter who is on a mission to save the bees. Relatable and important for everyone who loves their gardens. The film will be followed by a panel Q&A featuring York bee experts.

The second screening is The Great Flood (2012), dir Bill Morrison. This film is about the Mississippi river flood of 1927. With climate
changes and Yorkshire floods high on the news agenda, this film has never been more relevant.

vol 2. of Shifting Sands moves on to a participatory project. The sea/film team are going to work with local artists, writers, photographers, designers and community groups to create a special zine. A DIY co-created community magazine that will feature untold stories, unheard voices and using alternative film culture as new lens to look at life on the Yorkshire Coast. Submissions are now welcome. A
timeline of when the sea/film team will be visiting local community centres, cafes and creative hubs to collect stories will be announced soon. Submissions and expressions of interest should go to:

vol 3. of Shifting Sands will take place in the Scarborough Market Hall Vaults. The sea/film team will create a new way to see and experience archive film, screening a remarkable programme of iconic footage of life on the Yorkshire Coast in days gone by. The archive film will feature people, places and play in Scarborough, Whitby and rural life. The screenings will take place in secret spaces hidden in the depths of the market hall vaults, making vol 3. a true exploration of archive film in every sense of the word. This will be accompanied by music, maps and surprises to bring the archive work to life.
