Sat 23rd - Sun 24th November
The multi-talented Hutton Buscel Artists have been reflecting on how they formed their group over 6 years ago, and how during that time they have contributed to the wider community. They have certainly made their mark in more ways than one, including raising funds for much needed causes. It all started on a very cold night in January 2013, when a small group of interested artists and makers, were invited by Shirley Doyle to meet at the village hall with a view to possibly organising an art event later that year. It was hoped that the newly formed art group would possibly inspire others to join the too. This dream has since been realised and has now increased its membership to 15 across various disciplines, not to mention having artist royalty amongst them with international award winning wildlife artist Alan M Hunt and the internationally acclaimed equine artist Judi Kent Pyrah.
As the exhibitions would be held in the village hall, the decision was made at a very early stage to support this historic building, and as such, it was agreed that a proportion of all sales would be donated to the Village Hall Committee. The group is proud to say that this accumulative figure now stands at £1,700 and they hope to increase this further at the forthcoming November exhibition. They further boosted funds over the last number of years by £696 from booking the village hall for their summer program of art workshops. In addition to this, they have raised £1,147 to date, for the Royal British Legion’s Scarborough branch through sales of their hand-crafted ceramic poppies, much like the ones exhibited in the Tower of London back in 2012.
Each year, the Hutton Buscel Artists create a group art installation and this year's joint project was to construct a piece of artwork combining the different styles and qualities of all their members. The challenge was to encourage different ways of working in media, which was unfamiliar to what they were used to. Their final work entitled 'Moors to Sea' demonstrates the varied responses to the theme, which was produced during their summer program of workshops. Shirley Doyle said "Creating an installation piece together is both enjoyable and rewarding as it unifies us as a group when all our styles are so varied". The collaborative installation piece will be on show at their forthcoming exhibition of art and craft, which will include fine art, ceramics, jewellery, poetry, photography, crafts, needle felt art, sculpture, textiles, seasonal gifts and festive produce.
They will be holding this year’s annual exhibition on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th November 2019, between 10am – 4pm, with an “Open Preview Evening” on Friday 22nd November, 7 – 9pm to which you are all invited. Entry is free, there is plenty of free parking and refreshments will be available.
You can keep up-to-date with the HB Artists via their website at www.HuttonBuscelArtists.co.uk, alternatively via their Facebook page @HuttonBuscelArtistsGroup, or you can contact Shirley Doyle on 07709 017851.
