The concert, at Westborough Methodist Church from 7 pm, will feature Scarborough’s Singing Vicar, Rev. Mike Leigh, alongside choirs from St Martin’s and Hackness Church of England Primary Schools and the voices of A Cappella. There will also be solo singing and instrumental performances by musical brothers Elliot and Edward Burnley as well as a performance by Susan Richards’ Dancers. The audience will be invited to join in singing a brand new song ‘Come one, come all’ by local hymn writer Marjorie Dobson written especially for the occasion.
This is the last fundraising event of 2019 to support Christian Aid’s partnership project in Ghana, which is helping young people - especially young women and disabled people - into training, employment and setting up their own businesses. We have committed to raise £5,000 by the end of 2019 for the project. The European Commission will match fund this threefold, making a total of £20,000.
The concert follows two recent successful fundraising events. A sponsored ‘Cycle, Jog, Walk’ in Broxa Forest in September attracted 19 participants, including two on unicycles, and raised £1,050 while the annual Autumn Coffee Morning at The Palm Court in October raised over £370. Thanks to The Palm Court for once again hosting the coffee morning and to the Mayor of Scarborough, Councillor Hazel Lynskey, for opening it.
Entry to the “Go, Go, Go for Ghana” concert is free and refreshments will be served in the interval. There will be an opportunity to donate towards the project and to hear a brief presentation by Christian Aid about the work that the project is doing in Ghana.
