Great Run Local is a free, weekly, friendly running initiative organised by fantastic volunteers that can take place on any day and time of the week. Offering both 2km and 5km distances, our aim is to increase and encourage sport participation for all abilities and ages, from absolute beginners and families to more experienced regular runners.

All events are supported by trained volunteers including our fantastic Great Run Local event coordinators as well as first aid trained volunteers.

All our events provide a social start and finish area for participants to meet new people, interact with other runners, share their stories and offer encouragement to each other. The weekly runs provide participants with the opportunity to attend frequently and maintain the fitness benefits associated with running regularly.

With your own personal Great Run Local Tag ID, participants can also track their progression through our unique mobile app.

A weekly timed event that offers both 2km and 5km routes. The event is family friendly and runners, joggers and walkers are all encouraged to participate. Please note that this event is on the CCW Scoresby Site (Whitby Sixth Form). Participants are encouraged to register for a Great Run Local timing card or wristband. This event is FREE to participate in. This event is totally volunteer delivered, so please contact us if you would like to volunteer.

The RSPCA Scarborough & District Branch are pleased to announce that award winning Inspector Kevin Kelly is running the 2020 London Marathon to raise funds on our behalf.

Kevin is a North Yorkshire Police Inspector who recently received the National RSPCA Honours Award for his enthusiasm and commitment to animals and for going above and beyond to tackle rural and wildlife crime.

Kevin is the lead force on the Rural Wildlife Crime team in North Yorkshire and has been working against animal crime for 17 years.

In his position he works closely with many of the RSPCA Inspectors and ACOs in our region and accepted our invitation to run the marathon without hesitation.

He has the same dedication to his marathon training and fundraising as he does for fighting animal crime.

Come and meet Kevin and our very own Inspector Geoff Edmond during our Volunteer drop in day on Saturday 14th between 1.00pm and 2.30pm in our shop on Aberdeen Walk.

We are running a free raffle this week and Kevin will be drawing the winner at 2pm. Every purchase this week in the shop qualifies for a free ticket so make sure you come in to get yours! The winner must be present at the draw on Saturday to qualify.

The volunteer drop in day will be from 11am until 3pm. Come and chat to some of our Trustees about volunteering for your local branch.

It’s Mickey’s 80th birthday and he and his wife Meg are awaiting the arrival of their son, Adrian, and his new (and latest!) fiancée, Grace.

Adrian has, according to his parents, a certain reputation regarding women and they feel meek, mild-mannered Grace should surely be warned of this. But are things really as they appear? Be prepared, as birthday follows birthday, to be amazed as the truth is finally revealed about Adrian, the suburban closet Lothario!

As ingenious in its construction as any of his previous plays, Birthdays Past, Birthdays Present is the 83rd play from the pen of one of Britain’s greatest playwrights. This year is not only his 80th birthday, but also the 60th anniversary of his playwriting debut – The Square Cat, his first professionally produced play, opened at Scarborough’s Library Theatre on 30 July 1959.

We are really pleased to offer Scarborough audiences another chance to see this explosive and passionate portrait of a young heroine of our times before it goes on a UK tour.

Yasmin is young and feisty and lives on the edge. A young mum, her Scarborough isn’t sandcastles, arcades and donkey rides. She’s been dealt a rough hand and has to decide whether to give in or get smart. But can the thing which threatens to ruin her life be the one thing which saves her?

Can she still be the architect of her own destiny?

An explosive and passionate portrait of a young heroine of our times.

Build A Rocket was made possible thanks to the support from our Script Development Fund Donors. This play was first presented at the SJT as part of our playreading programme in 2017 written by Scarborough born writer and actor, Christopher York.

Operation Christmas Child, Scarborough, the Christian shoebox charity, sent more than 5,000 shoeboxes filled with presents to children around the world last year who otherwise would have had nothing at Christmas. OCC was only able to do this through the continued generosity of the public along the Yorkshire coast, Ryedale and the Wolds who donated the shoeboxes to us. Those 5,000 boxes were among more than half a million sent from the UK to children around the world. It is approaching the time for this year's campaign to start and on Saturday at Scarborough Christian Fellowship on Castle Road, 6.30pm start, supporters will be able to hear plans for the upcoming campaign. Please join us. Refreshments and smiles will be provided!

When families get together to celebrate a special occasion, there’s a danger that all hell will break loose. Particularly if you happen to be trapped for several days with all your relatives and copious amounts of alcohol...

Neville and Belinda are hosting their extended family over a long weekend. The presence of two tyrannical uncles – Bernard, whose ham-fisted annual puppet shows are a source of dread to young and old alike, and TV addict Harvey – promises to stir up trouble from the start. And that’s before you add to the mix broken toys, creaking marriages and guest novelist Clive, whose relationship with Belinda’s sister Rachel is going nowhere, causing him to look for love elsewhere.

Directed by the author, this is the first time that the Stephen Joseph Theatre has staged Season’s Greetings since its premiere here in 1980. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see a sparkling new production of a classic Ayckbourn comedy.
