Cottingham Market
Cottingham Market

Hello,

I’m helping to organise some fun activities for adults and kids on Yorkshire day (this Thursday) at Cottingham market. I wondered if you could share it?

Here are some details of what’s going on and also the event link:

To celebrate Yorkshire Day we’re going to have a bit of fun on market day!

Activities include:

- Yorkshire baking competition. To enter bring your yorkshire related baked item (with contact name and number attached) to the market between 9 and 12:45 for judging. Judging will take place at 1pm and the winner will receive a £30 voucher for Sugar 'n' Spice Cakes Ltd. Baked items can then be collected from 1.30pm

- Age 8 and under dress up competition. To enter, bring your child dressed up (any theme) to the cheese stall at the market between 9 and 2.30. A photo will be taken and the winning boy and girl will have their photo posted on our page at 6pm the same day - so make sure you've liked the page!! The winners will get a free entry ticket to Blue Kangaroo. (All photos will be deleted after the event)

- Yorkshire Quiz. To enter pick up a Yorkshire Quiz paper from the market and have your child complete it before posting it in the entry box between 9 and 2.30pm. The winner will be chosen at 6pm the same day and they'll win a hot chocolate and piece for cake for parent and child at Pearl's Place of Cottingham.

- Hull Musical Theatre Company will be joining us to do some busking

- Charity raffle to win a Yorkshire Hamper full of foodie treats. The money will go towards a wheelchair pram for Matilda Shearsmith who has a very rare form of epilepsy.

The last remaining professional seaside orchestra continues a seaside tradition that dates back to 1912.

We invite you to sit back, relax and enjoy a performance by some of the most versatile musicians you are ever likely to find.

As always, our morning concerts will present music on the lighter, brighter side with plenty of familiar tunes and jaunty rhythms, balanced by romantic melodies, stirring marches, lilting waltzes – and so much more to entertain you.

All morning concerts are performed within the elegant Suncourt Enclosure with Scarborough's stunning South Bay as the back-drop. If the weather is inclement, don’t worry, we simply move inside!

Our concerts still offer excellent value but if you have never experienced a Scarborough Spa Orchestra we invite you to one of our Sunday morning concerts where you can Pay What You Like! (Recommended Donation £3)

We look forward to meeting our audiences throughout the season, renewing old friendships and making new ones as we aim to introduce more and more people to the wonderful music played by the Legendary Scarborough Spa Orchestra.

There is no better way to spend a relaxing morning in Scarborough!

We hope to see you this Summer.

When families get together to celebrate a special occasion, there’s a danger that all hell will break loose. Particularly if you happen to be trapped for several days with all your relatives and copious amounts of alcohol...

Neville and Belinda are hosting their extended family over a long weekend. The presence of two tyrannical uncles – Bernard, whose ham-fisted annual puppet shows are a source of dread to young and old alike, and TV addict Harvey – promises to stir up trouble from the start. And that’s before you add to the mix broken toys, creaking marriages and guest novelist Clive, whose relationship with Belinda’s sister Rachel is going nowhere, causing him to look for love elsewhere.

Directed by the author, this is the first time that the Stephen Joseph Theatre has staged Season’s Greetings since its premiere here in 1980. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see a sparkling new production of a classic Ayckbourn comedy.

If you are a leading surgeon in London’s most prestigious hospital and you are delivering the “Lecture of the Year” to a hundred of the world’s leading physicians, the last thing you want is a distraught mistress from 20 years ago turning up.

Well Dr. Mortimer can cope with that, but when the erstwhile mistress says that the result of their past union was a baby boy, he is more than gobsmacked. And when the ex-mistress then tells him that the baby boy, now a strapping sixteen-year old, is waiting outside to be introduced, there is only one course of action – send for faithful friend, Dr. Bonney.

Typical Cooney complications ensue involving a police sergeant, Dr. Mortimor’s wife, a severe hospital matron and Dr. Bonney’s mother.

Featuring performances from Jack Buck, Jordan Butler, Chris Copeland, Penny Cullen, Ian Dobson, Kenzie Greenwood, Ivan Hall, Sally Jones, Karen McCarthy, Katrina Stead, Polly Stephenson, Steve Upton & Chris Wales.

L. Frank Baum’s classic novel comes to life in The Wizard of Oz. This faithful adaptation by the Royal Shakespeare Company features all the most beloved songs and moments from the 1939 classic film, brought to life onstage. Young Dorothy Gale is swept away by a tornado from her Kansas farm to the magical land of Oz. There, she encounters a host of whimsical characters: good witches, bad witches, animals that talk, scarecrows that walk, and things magical to behold. To find her way home, she must journey along the Yellow Brick Road to see the mysterious and all-powerful Wizard in Emerald City. Along the way, she makes new friends, but must also brave many dangers, including the Wicked Witch of the West, who will stop at nothing to get her hands on Dorothy’s magical ruby slippers. To make it home safely, Dorothy must learn an important lesson: there’s no place like home.
